Btown.com — A Digital Asset 30 Years Ahead of Its Time
Hello, my name is Dean Walker, and I’m the owner of Btown.com—a rare, highly brandable domain that is now officially available for sale.
Let me tell you why this name matters.
Over 30 years ago—back when the internet was still a frontier and AOL was the main gateway to being online—I saw something coming that most people didn’t believe in yet.
E-commerce.
Online communities.
Digital identity.
At the time, I was already an art director and designer with roots going back to the 1970s. When the internet emerged, I didn’t just want to participate—I wanted to build something.
My vision was simple, but far ahead of its time:
Create an online “city” where businesses would live, grow, and connect—each with their own presence, all under one shared digital identity.
I wanted to call it “Boomtown”… but that name was taken.
So I secured Btown.com.
And just like that, a digital city was born.

The Original “B-Town”Long before social media, I built a virtual community:
  • A postcard station
  • A wishing well
  • A blog
  • Business storefronts (as subdomains)
At its peak, over 10 companies “resided” in Btown—paying monthly to be part of this early online ecosystem.
One of the first was a friend’s business, Sheldon’s Hobbies. When I pitched him the idea, he told me the internet was “about as exciting as watching paint dry.”
I told him:
“You’re already rich—you don’t need the $35 a month… but I do.”
He laughed—and signed on.
That’s how Btown began.

A Vision Before Its TimeBack then, almost no one believed in online commerce.
But I did.
I felt like a voice in the wilderness saying:
“E-commerce is coming. Prepare yourself.”
And eventually… it did.
As the internet matured, businesses moved on to build their own standalone websites. The “city” dissolved—but the domain remained.
And I held onto it.
For over three decades.

Why Btown.com Matters Today“B-Town” is everywhere.
Cities. Communities. Brands. Culture.
Across the country—and around the world--“B-Town” is a nickname people already use, identify with, and search for.
That makes Btown.com:
  • Short
  • Memorable
  • Highly brandable
  • Instantly recognizable
  • Broadly applicable across industries
Whether it becomes a city portal, lifestyle brand, media platform, e-commerce hub, or community network, the potential is enormous.
I’ve had offers over the years—but I wasn’t ready.
Now I am.

Why I’m SellingI’m 73 years old, semi-retired, and no longer interested in building out what this domain could become.
But I know this:
In the right hands, Btown.com could be something very powerful.
